Hugh teaches us how to tackle unwanted habits that have negative consequences. His compassionate approach is both nurturing and wise.
Hugh Byrne began teaching meditation and mindfulness in 2000. He completed a four-year teacher-training program with Jack Kornfield and other senior teachers at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in California and the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA. He also trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Somatic Experiencing, a mind-body approach to healing trauma. Hugh was born and raised in London and went on to study and teach law in England before moving to the U.S. in the late 1970s. Hugh worked in the human rights sector in Latin America for more than 20 years. During that period, he began to study and train in Buddhist insight meditation. Most recently, Hugh co-founded the Washington Buddhist Peace Fellowship and mentors a team that teaches mindfulness in correctional facilities in the D.C. region.
